SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exams are one of the most awaited exams for those who aspire to have a government job. How to crack SSC CHSL exams?
First of all, know what SSC and CHSL exam is
SSC is the body responsible for conducting CHSL or Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) exam every year. DEO and LDC etc. posts in different central government office are filled through this recruitment drive. This exam is conducted in 3 Phases or 3 Tiers. Tier 1 is Objective type test conducted Online. Tier 2 is Descriptive type test in which Essays, Applications or Letters are asked to write. And Tier 3 is based on the Skill test or Typing test for both Hindi or English.
Know the Pattern of SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam
It is a MCQ based online exam. Total 100 questions are in the paper with a total of 200 marks and time duration of 60 minutes earlier it was 75 minutes. Question paper has 4 sections each section carries 25 questions from General Intelligence, English, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. The catch is 1 marks deducted for every 4 wrong attempts.

Practice solving previous year question papers can be key to your success as above 55% questions can be found in those old question papers. Mostly General Awareness and General Intelligence questions are repeated year after year, this is the section where you can score well. Quantitative Aptitude questions even if its repeated you have to solve them to be sure with the answers which takes time. Proper practice is necessary to increase your speed in solving quantitative aptitudes.
Relative Study Materials
For appearing any exam it is always important to have the right set of books and suggestions. Try to solve and practice with all previous year question papers. SSC Mathematics Chapter-wise Solved Paper (1999 – Till Date). SSC Reasoning Chapter-wise Solved Papers 6200+ Questions. Make sure you have the latest edition of General Awareness and English Grammar.
Three Phase Study Plan for the preparation of CHSL in 3 months
Your focus should be on completing the syllabus. Study one topic each from different subject daily. Go through the daily newspaper to brush your GK and English. At the end of the day take a mock test of the topics covered, there are many websites and mobile apps providing mock tests online.
During these 4 weeks, practice as much as you can. Daily try to solve at least 50 questions of Mathematics, Reasoning, and English. Start making notes of GK and English newspaper. Continue to increase your mock tests from daily one to daily five. Start solving previous year question papers.
In this last phase only things you must focus on - solving test papers and a lot of revision. Increase your mock tests to daily 10 with a check on time for analysis. Know your strengths and focus on them. Revise everything you prepared notes for.
Topics you must focus on:
English Language: Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms and phrases, Error Findings, One-word Substitution, Comprehension and Sentence Rearrangement.
Reasoning: Direction and Distances, Arrangement and Pattern, Blood Relations, Mathematical Inequalities, Coding-Decoding, and Syllogisms.
QA: Data Interpretation, Simplification, Quadratic Equations, Number System, Geometry, Probability, Average, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Interest, Algebra, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, Time Speed & Distance, Number Series, etc.
General Awareness: History, Geography, Economics, General Science, Current Affairs which must include Govt. Policies, Scientific Research, Awards and Honors, Books and authors, Important Days, National News.
Those Sixty Minutes during the exam
It takes almost 6 seconds to read the question and mark the correct option on the screen. Try to start with General Awareness and solve all 25 questions in 7 to 8 minutes. Then pick up English language and try to finish it around 10 to 12 minutes. Mark sure answers, your silly guesses can cost you minus marking. Try to solve Reasoning's question in 15 to 16 minutes and rest 25 minutes can be used to solve questions in Quantitative Aptitude.
